Several major blockbusters are set to be released in 2025 in the form of franchise sequels, reboots, and live-action adaptations. While there are significantly fewer blockbuster releases in 2024 compared to 2023, there are likely to be more highly anticipated releases in 2025. At the time of writing, the biggest blockbuster releases of 2024 include Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, two films that have grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
The top 5 box office performers of 2024 include 'Despicable Me 4', 'Dune: Part 2' and 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire'. There are a few more highly anticipated releases coming before the end of the year, the first of which is Ridley Scott's long-awaited sequel to Gladiator starring Paul McCartney and Universal's film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical 'Wicked', both due for release on November 22. Potential top box office contenders for the end of the year include 'Moana 2' (November 27) and 'Mufasa: The Lion King' (December 20).
